Big Red Kangaroo, a lovely picture book, written by Claire Saxby and illustrated by yours truly, was published by Walker Books in August this year.
The animal other side of the Australian coat-of-arms is in the pipeline also as one of the Nature Storybook series by Walker Books.
In 2015 the 2 books will head off to the US!
Here is a sneak preview of part of a spread for emu.
I used ink, mostly done with a twig and sponges, with digital collaging to make the images, whereas Big Red was done in charcoal, with the same digital method of assembling.

Graham Byrnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05430738691096516272noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580745682364822083.post-48171398356767133052013-07-07T21:25:00.002+10:002013-07-07T21:29:52.666+10:00twisted

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">I saw at the Art Gallery of NSW today, a work by the Australian artist George Baldessin, "Occasional images from a city chamber", an etching in 25 pieces about 14m long, so in response to the Illustration Friday topic of "tension", I added some effects in photoshop to a sketch to mirror some of the marks in the etching. Water, or the lack of it.
Way back, in 1844, August 10th, Captain Charles Sturt led the Central Australian Expedition from Adelaide, along the Murray and the Darling Rivers before heading where no European had been before. The quest was to find the sea which Sturt and his sponsors believed occupied the heart of Australia.
The expedition's outfit consisted of: 16 men,11 horses, 30 bullocks.1 boat and boat carriage. 1 horse dray.1 spring cart.3 drays, 200 sheep for food, two sheep dogs, and four kangaroo dogs. The journey failed to find the mythical inland sea.
I will post some images soon on that topic, and this one is a doodle for the Illustration Friday topic of "book", which is nothing like the style of the roo book, it being done in charcoal with digital collaging and colouring.Graham Byrnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05430738691096516272noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580745682364822083.post-72301491389890316332012-06-22T11:14:00.004+10:002012-06-22T12:07:40.779+10:00Cow secrets
