Big Red Kangaroo
Big Red Kangaroo, a lovely picture book, written by Claire Saxby and illustrated by yours truly, was published by Walker Books in August this year.
The animal other side of the Australian coat-of-arms is in the pipeline also as one of the Nature Storybook series by Walker Books.
In 2015 the 2 books will head off to the US!
Here is a sneak preview of part of a spread for emu.
I used ink, mostly done with a twig and sponges, with digital collaging to make the images, whereas Big Red was done in charcoal, with the same digital method of assembling.

twisted
This morning's yoga class was a bit of a twister!
A quick sketch for the Illustration Friday topic of "protest", as my body did today. Maybe I was not following instructions correctly.

Big Red Kangaroo
Here is the cover of the children's book I have illustrated, due in the shops in a few months. It is written by Claire Saxby, published by Walker Books. It is a great story, mixing fact with fiction to give some idea of the life of red roos.
The next one is about an Emu, see it sometime next year!
I have been away for 2 months, doing a 13000km return road trip from Sydney to Port Hedland in Western Australia. Quite tricky driving in crazy city traffic again, after so long driving on quiet outback roads, one day seeing 3 cars and 4 emus in 400km.

Tension
I saw at the Art Gallery of NSW today, a work by the Australian artist George Baldessin, "Occasional images from a city chamber", an etching in 25 pieces about 14m long, so in response to the Illustration Friday topic of "tension", I added some effects in photoshop to a sketch to mirror some of the marks in the etching. Probably impossible to get close to the real thing.

emu games
Dave was just enjoying a beer in the outback, watching the sun set, when he was disturbed by a pair of emus.

Flying Farley
It is not too often I have an image ready for an Illustration Friday topic, but 'Wings' suited this one.
Tis from a little book I am doing for someone, 12 spreads about Farley, a small flattish fish, who has a few adventures.
